Robotic hysterectomy is performed under general anaesthesia, typically taking 1.5 to 3 hours depending on the extent of the surgery required.
Anaesthesia & Preparation
You are placed under general anaesthesia. The abdomen is gently inflated with CO₂ gas to create working space for the robotic instruments.
Small Incisions Made
Three to four tiny incisions (5–12 mm each) are made in the abdomen. Robotic ports and a camera are gently inserted.
Robotic Arms Docked
The robotic system is attached to the ports. The surgeon moves to the console and controls the robotic arms with 3D HD visualization.
Uterus Removed & Closure

Your Recovery Journey
Recovery from robotic hysterectomy is significantly faster than traditional open surgery. Most women return to daily activities within 2–3 weeks.
You’ll wake up in the recovery room with nursing care monitoring your vitals. Most patients can sit up and take liquids within a few hours. Pain is managed with IV medication and typically well-controlled.
Most patients are discharged within 1–2 days. You’ll receive a detailed discharge plan, oral pain relief, and instructions from your Mitra Care Associate. Gentle walking is encouraged from day one to promote circulation.
Rest is important. Avoid heavy lifting (over 5 kg) and strenuous activity. Short walks around the home are beneficial. You may experience mild bloating, shoulder tip pain from gas, or light vaginal discharge — all normal.
Most women return to desk work and light household activities by week 2–3. You’ll have a follow-up with your surgeon. Driving is typically permitted after 2 weeks once you’re off strong painkillers.
By 4–6 weeks, most women feel fully recovered. Exercise, swimming, and sexual activity can typically be resumed after your surgeon gives clearance at the 6-week follow-up. Long-term outlook is excellent.
When to Call Your Doctor

Temperature above 38.5°C (101.3°F) lasting more than 24 hours post-discharge may indicate infection.
Soaking more than one pad per hour, or passing large clots is a sign to seek immediate care.
Pain that is sudden, severe, or not relieved by prescribed painkillers requires immediate evaluation.
Increasing redness, warmth, swelling, or discharge from any incision site should be reported promptly.
Inability to urinate, or a strong burning sensation when urinating, warrants a call to your care team.
Calf pain, redness, or swelling in one leg may indicate a DVT (blood clot) and needs urgent attention.
